Microblading or Powder Brows? Which One Is Right for You?
The differences between the two most popular permanent brow techniques, how to choose for your skin type, and how long each lasts.
You have decided on permanent brows — and now you face two options: microblading and powder brows. Both give beautiful results, but the right choice is not the same for every face and skin type.
Microblading: natural hair strokes
In microblading, fine hair-like strokes are drawn into the upper layer of the skin with a special hand tool. The result is incredibly natural brows that are hard to tell from real hair.
- Ideal skin type: normal and dry
- Lasts: 12–18 months
- Look: natural, make-up free
Powder brows: soft shading
With powder brows, pigment is placed using a dotting technique. The front of the brow is lighter and the tail denser, for a look like a light brow powder.
- Ideal skin type: oily, combination and sensitive
- Lasts: 18–24 months
- Look: defined, softly made-up
What about both?
Combo brows use microblading strokes at the front for a natural look and powder shading through the body and tail for fullness. For sparse brows, it is often the most balanced result.
